Hello all. I just wanted to let you all know that from tomorrow I will be leaving and stepping down as Sports and Teams Officer for the students union. I really just wanted to say that I have really enjoyed my time with you all. I hope that I have been some help this year and that the SU have enjoyed some of my ideas as well as yourselves. There has been so many highlights and I feel sport has really gone to the next level at the university and I hope that we continue to push forward for the coming years as a sporting university. I just wanted to say a huge thanks to everyone I have worked with. Without you I wouldn’t have been able to learn, gain new skills and experiences and most of all make new friendships and work relationships. From next week i will be working for West Lindsy Council In Gainsborough as their Community Sports Development Officer. It is a new challenge and something my degree was aimed towards and I am really looking forward to starting it. I will still be about in Lincoln for the next coming years. So I wont of disappeared. I know I have still many links both work and social with the university and I will look forward to this. Many thanks again. And good luck for the 2010-2011 term in September. I wish andreas the best of luck and he knows I will be about to help him when he needs. Signing off as sports and teams officer one last time and also the last time the university has this role within the students union. So long my friends. Have fun!!!

I want to thank everyone for a great, hard but motivational year. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at the SU and really appreciate the opportunity of being your Sports teams officer. Its been great to come to work and be apart of this student experience. And i thoroughly enjoyed being part of and leading on the success that this University shows within sport and recreational sport too. I have made sure the university is aware of this. Anyway. One blog to go. I will speak one final time next week. Have fun!

    08/04/2010

This week is return to work after a nice and long easter weekend. I have to admit there is still so much to do at the students union. This week my main focus is pushing the sports and socieities ball. We need to get tickets sold as it is going to be an amazing night to celebrate the huge array of sporting and society success we have had at the union this year. Without the students we wouldn't be in such a successful position in both the university sporting BUCS tables and also the participation rates we see. So thank you. I am also looking upon superstars and finalising dates and times for the last few rounds and finals that need to take place before the ball. Its all a bit hectic but we are getting there. Finally the government has announced there will be a general election on May 6th 2010. I will be in the Atrium next week making sure you know how to get involved and sign up to vote in this annual election. I hope to see you all then. Have a good rest of easter and will see you all for the final part of the year. How sad is that. :( CIAO

Well what can i say. What a week it has been. Sports tour was amazing. Lincoln university had a fantastic time out in Salou and came back with some great results. Womens football, Mens And womens Basketball came 2nd in their tournaments. And Ultimate frisbee were stars of the tour with a first place in their tournament. It was a great event and i hope that it will continue to go on over the next few years within the students union

    22/03/2010

This has been one of the busiest weeks in the calendar for me and i really enjoyed every moment of it. Varsity commenced this week.

And was a huge success. The university hosted Derby on Monday, with some fantastic performances by all sports involved. This was the first year we had this event here on the monday. And the increase of spectators showed. Especially at the Men's basketball game and hockey. With a good four hours of sport the university came out of the first day of varsity 6-2 up. And going into the second day strong.

We the travelled to Derby on the wednesday. This was more gruelling day. But overall Lincoln were victorious for the 4th year and lifed the trophy 12-6. Well done to all. It was well deserved and the behaviour this year was brilliant.

I am now just preparing Sports tour and this will commence on saturday for a week. Come on lincoln. ESPANIA AWAITS YOU!!!

Work is very busy at the moment and im trying my best to help as many students as i can.

     -----

    Semester B- Week 08/03/2010

This week has seen a few things going on. Firstly the banner and all the times for the varsity series have now gone up and it is looking to be a great competition. Dodgeball has also been rediscovered and also equine have been added to the final lists of sports that are competing for Lincoln.

The Sports and societies ball date has been announced and we are asking all teams and societies to send in nominations for awards by the 26th of march. It is going to be a fantastic event and i look forward to creating it with kayleigh, Ian and Tracey.

Finally the sports teams seem to continue to be doing well. The two Rugby teams are doing exceptional and i hope this will be seen with two promotions. Congratulations needs to go to the Hockey team Men's 1st. These are champions of their BUCS League table and are going for a no losing league game season. well done guys.

Also the SU elections have finally finished. I want to send my congratulations to all the winners including Andreas who is the new Activities officer. I also want to give my well done to Kat walker and Katie Blackburn who both did great campaigns for this position.

Finally the trophy cabinet for the Atrium is still causing issues however i am continuing to fight and get a trophy cabinet on show within the university to show the array of success that the sports and societies achieve to all. Including displaying the varsity trophy.

    ----

    Semester B- Several Months Update

Superstars- round 4 is underway and thanks needs to go to kat walker for her excellent work with round 3 and completing those doing round 2. Superstars is becoming more competitiive and im looking forward to the finals.

Sports unlimited- All the teams that issued sports unlimtied forms have now had these processed and are now on the way to be finally paid into sports and societies bank accounts.

BUCS- Teams are continuing to do the university proud with some good individual rseults from Kofukan karate, rowing and golf and Futsal. The league tables are looking good too and i look forward to sharing results and success by lincoln university sport.

Varsity- 22nd of march and 24th of march have been the two dates decided.

Varsity is finally here and how I am looking forward to being your sports and teams officer for this 4th annual series of the event. Lincoln goes into the competition 3 – 0 up in the series and are looking to keep that vital varsity trophy within Lincoln.

This years event hosts over 12 sports with 18 fixtures taking place over the two days. For the first time this year we are hosting the indoor sports and Hockey games on the Monday. We will then be travelling to Derby on the Wednesday.

Tour- Final information is being processed and we look to be going on a very successful tour to spain.

SU Elections- These are going on this week and my aim is to beat last years voting count. Get voting guys.

    ----

Week 14- Sports and societies ball, Sports Unlimited money, BUCS begins again and Varsity preparation. And trophy cabinet.

    ----

    Week 13- Welcome back Lincoln

Very quiet week this week. The welcome back to Lincoln week. Lots of things to plan for and lots of things to do. Very little time. This week i helped with the creation of the students union roles for next years  students union sabatical officer team. I feel that this has been done to its best ability and whoever will take over mine and valentines role will have a good role to undertake. The next few plans look at superstars round 3,4 and 5. Varsity, sport development plans for all clubs, coaching opportunities, the continuation of a sports news letter and also sports tour.

    ----

Week 12- Final week, tour, sports unlimited money forms.

Semester A has finally come to an end. When I say finally…It has flown by. What a great 12 weeks this has been. This week i have been running down towards christmas with finalising Salou Fest Sports tour. We are taking 120 people away to Spain which i am really looking forward too.

I have also been taking in the sports unlimited money forms from the specified teams within the scheme. For those that don't know what this is. Basically Lincolnshire sports partnership is trying to increase the number of 18 and 19 year olds in specific sports. If these sports have 18 or 19 year olds training with them for 10 weeks they earn £200. This is really good for the teams wanting to raise self raised funds.

Finally i have been getting the teams semester A league tables and reviews up on the screens in the university and the engine shed. Lincoln is doing well this year and i have big hopes and my fingers crossed for some success. Lincoln have also entered their first tenpin bowling, snooker, clay pigeon shooting, cross country and indoor athletics athletes into their respective BUCS championships. This is great to see and a step forward for university sport as we are being represented in more sports.

    -----

Week 11- Superstars Round 2, Student council, Tour.

This week saw the second round of superstars take place at the sports centre. Each competitor had to undertake the bleep test and then the top two boys and girls of this event fought out for engine shed season tickets at a mini bonus round at the wednesday night fever pitch. The event went very well and the competition is now on. Bring on round 3.

Student council also took place this week. This was well attended and again helped the views of the students be placed on the table for us all to hear.

The final fixtures of the season also kicked off. And the final team of the week was given to mens football for their great attitude through a tough first semester. Well done guys.

I am now focusing on give it a go week, re-freshers week, development plans for teams in semester B, superstars round 3, news teams and of course varsity.

The website will also see a re-vamp and im hoping all teams will get a semester B review newsletter sent to them by the end of the last week of term.

    Week 10

This week has been a catch up week for me. I have finally sorted tour and all deposits are nearly paid by all teams.I have managed to increase the amount of people going to Salou fest from 90 people last year to nearly 120 people this year. This is great news and im sure our sports teams will have a great time out there.

My focus this week has been looking at a number of different things. These include:

    1) Moving the new teams accepted into sports council onto the tills.

    2) Organisng the second round of the superstars event, working on times and also a bonus round linked with the shed olympics at the engine shed. This will win a lucky competitor a season ticket for the rest of the year.

    3) Looking at the new restructure of the students union. I have been trying to work how we can create a good position that will fill both mine and valentines job roles next year. We are looking to make a better student experience with the views of the students.

The fixtures again produced some excellent results and I also helped with the university of Lincoln Rowing teams 24 hour row. This was a cold night, however the team raised a very commendable £550 in the buckets.

     -----

Week 9- Superstars T-shirts arrive, BUCS conference, Fixtures continue, sports council.

Superstars t-shirts finally arrived this week. It now allows all competitors to walk round and be proud to be part of this event. It also means all students in the university are aware of the event happening and can start to support their favourite competitor.

The sports and societies department along with the sports centre attended a regional BUCS conference in Bradford on developing intra mural sport and varsity. This was brilliant to be involved in as it gave us lots of ideas to develop both competitive and non competitive sport for all students. Even if you are not part of a team or society, in the coming months the students union is going to try develop sporting opportunities for you. Watch this space.

Finally Fixtures continued with some brilliant results. Highlights came from the Shotokan karate coming back with several Medals, the mens rugby union 2nds, womens football, mens football and mens hockey all producing some quality results as they race for promotion.

Sports council also continued this week with two brand new clubs introduced into the sports and societies office. These were the triathlon club and parkour club.

    -------

Week 8- ALL STUDENT MEETING , SUPERSTARS ROUND 1, TOUR.

This week saw the all student meeting take place. Several motions were taken to the meeting including the change of the executive commitee structure in the students union. This would reduce the original 6 full time to 4 full time members and 9 part time members. It was voted in by most of the students at the meeting and will mean big change for the future of the students union.

Preparation for the next sports council was underway and also Tour sign up was getting ever so closer to its deadline. Their has been some good interest so far.

Finally the SUPERSTARS first round kicked off with a bungee run challenge. Everyone competing within this seem to have  a great time and are looking forward to the next round. This will take place in december and will involve a bleep test. The bungee run attracted lots of students not involved in the event too which is great to see.

    ------

    Week 5, 6 and 7

The past 3 weeks have been busy. I have been up to alot of different things.

    1) I have had plenty of interviews with the linc and the bullet about whats going on within the sports and societies this year.

    2) We had our First Sports council which ran really well, with most teams using the development fund to the maximun to help them keep afloat for the season. However most teams were happy with the union so far. Their was a debate on the new meal system with the tower bar and this is up for review next month. Tower bar takeovers were also discussed and this allowed teams to see how important they are to a clubs funds.

    3) Sports Tour 2010 was decided and we are going to Salou in spain. All deposits have to be in by the 4th of december. We are taking womens football, mens football, Cheerleading, Womens and mens basketball, womens rugby and ultimate frisbee. It shall be an epic journey. Get yourselfs signed up.

    4) Superstars Round 1 was finally announced and 50 competitors will be facing a bungee run. This will be a fun and exciting and hopefully a well support event.

    5) The teams are now booking their own buses to reduce problems that occur with no shows or lack of bookings. Each team has to have all their buses booked by end of monday each week so that they know when, where and how they are getting to games. This is proving quite successful.

    6) A new funding scheme has been given to all teams. Sports unlimited have allocated budget for teams training 18- 19 year olds. If the selected teams (that the government gives this money too) has 10 or more of this age category then after 16 sessions they are eligible to gain £200 for their self raised funds. Great news for teams in need of this.

    7) The sports and societies department reached a new record of over 2100 people signing up for sports and societies. This is great news and great for the development of participation, representation of ULSU.

In the sporting front the teams are growing bigger and stronger. Golf have had a fantastic run of results with excellent BUCS individual wins at qualyfying rounds. I was very pleased. The rugby union 2nds and Mens hockey team 1st are also doing brilliantly. The Lacrosse team and Ultimate frisbee teams are also representing the university all over the country and doing pretty well overall in each of their tournaments. Finally the rowing team had another strong performance with a 6th out of 95 at Norwich small boats head. The Futsal team were also in action for the first time this season and also Baseball seem to be playing well in the early season. Rugby League and womens basketball also got their first win of the season and the mens rugby and football seem to be looking storng in their respective leagues.

I finally had chance to get out of the office and watch the womens football, mens hockey and badminton/ netball (little did they know i was watching from the balcony).

All presidents have been actioned to come and recieve a letter regarding the All Student Meeting! So that everyone is aware that it is going on and everyone can come along and have there say about the students' union!

    ------

    Week 4- Fixtures continue

Again all sports teams were competing within BUCS fixtures. Another week of great results were produced. A highlight of the week came from the University of Lincoln Rowing Club who set off to a great start with a IM3 Quad win at Huntingdon Head on Saturday 24th of October 2009. The crew completed the 4km course in 15 minutes 44 seconds; and finished 10th out of 65 competitors and won their Boat category. This was Lincoln University first trophy win of the season.

My week involved moving myself away from organising fixtures and more focus on catching up on emails, getting new clubs in to discuss their developmetn and also looking into tour and superstars as an event. I also helped with advertising the elections once again and discussing this with students.

    -----

    Week 3-BUCS Starts and elections

This week has been a busy one. BUCS fixtures finally began and this was a really good start by all teams. Unfortunatley due to a spread of flu throughout the office i still was sorting fixtures out and unfortunate not to get out to see any of the teams play. However the first slideshow went up onto the engine shed at the first Fever picth after BUCS. This communicated the success of all teams.

The Bi elections were announced this week and i was asked to speak to students up at Riseholme and within the sports and socieities about getting involved within the union.

    -----

    Week 2- Pep Rally

This Week allowed me to get to know more of the teams and their various committees. All teams are now understanding what they need to do with regards to finance, controlling budgets, booking buses and developing their clubs. This is quite a difficult process but most preisdents are showing their faces and doing a brilliant job. Unfortunately due to staff illness this was quite a tough week. I was left to organise most of the fixtures for the following week which was quite chaotic. Rugby  Union kicked the seaon off for BUCS fixtures this week.
Also On Wednesday this week was the day of the Pep Rally, i have to say with great organisation by valentine i only had to pick up on the smaller things that were needing doing. Was a great event which brought lots of teams together and created alot of fun.

    -----

Week 1- Hoodies arrive, higher numbers and SUPERSTARS

The sports and societies hoodies finally arrived. I feel this week was the busiest week so far within the office. Everybody was so eager to join a team or society and get their new hoodies. I think in the first week 800 were almost gone out of the 1500 predicted numbers. This was brilliant news. But also a quick honest word was given to get in and sign up before the hoodies disappeared.

All clubs training started this week and the sports centre was crammed to capacity which is great to see but also a little worrying if more teams become part of the students union. We will have to find a way forward from this.

I introduced a new event this week called Superstars. Based on the BBC superstars from many years ago the event asked all teams and societies to send 4 competitors each and sign up for the event. Basically the event involves team members competing against each other in a number of challenges over semester A and Semester B. Each event the competitors individually get points allocated into a male and female League table. Once 5 rounds are completed the top 4 competitors from the male and female leagues will compete in a semi final in the tower bar and then a final in the Engine shed in april time. The winners will recieve a superstars trophy at the sports and societies awards dinner and also a wall of fame in the office for the year. The Team they represent will also gain a prize for entering and supporting the event. Im hoping the whole event will bring more teams together and also more support within the students union. however we shall have to wait and see.

     -----

    Freshers Week

Freshers week was very successful in my opinion. It was very tiring but i had alot of fun. Meeting the new sports and teams presidents and finally putting  faces to names from emails i recieved over summer was brilliant.

Also in this week we had our Sports and Societies Fayre and I felt this was very successful. It was the most walked in fayre of the week and hopefully this will show with regards to the number of people signing up. We have a few new interested clubs including POLO, swimming, Triathlon and running clubs.

Finally the fresher week events were occuring all across campus and also in the engine shed. Some really enjoyable activities happened.
