Well, in a word, REPS do.
The Students' Union is made up of Reps, and seeing as the Unions' main function is Represenation it is pretty fitting that our meetings are made up of representatives from in and around the Union and University.
The reps who are specially elected to sit on Student Council come from every corner of the Student Community, and are selcted from the group that they represent.
We have representatives from each Sub Committee of Council, as well as Academic student reps from each 'school' within the University, and on top of that the Union's Executive team make up the final student reps.
All these 'Reps' have membership to Council, which in a nutshell means they hold the votes within the meeting.
Anyone can go. Any student who wants to know whats going on, wants to make a change, has an issue or just wants to get more involved is invited. Although you won't have 'voting rights' you do have 'speaking rights' and this is possibly more valuable, as speaking on a topic as a student can often influence those with a vote to chose the best option that benefits students.
Senior Management from the University are also invited to the meeting, as this is a great chance for them to see the real issues that students face, and it is also useful to go direct to the decision makers within the University.
